Let me guess. Your first question is “How the heck to you pronounce Gökotta, and what does it mean? I’m glad you asked! It means "the act of rising with the sun to spend the first moments of the day listing to birdsong." sigh…

I'm a brick in the morning at home, but when I travel, I'm up with the sun, outside in nature (coffee in hand, of course) specifically listening to the birds sing. Naturally, this word resonated with me back in 2018 when I launched Gökotta Travel, and it continues to fee right.

Jessica Brekke is the owner and founder of Gökotta Travel. She holds a degree in Aviation Business Management and over the years has worked in commercial, private, and charter aviation. When she’s not planning your next amazing getaway, she’s at the dog park with her white Shepphard Ovi, watching her son coach hockey, or outside on the deck with her daughter sipping on an over-priced refresher from Caribou Coffee. Her happy place is Costa Rica, and her next stops are Italy (Siena and Puglia), Sicily (The Godfather Tour!), Scotland (trains, fury cattle and castles!), and Egypt (because, duh). A European Christmas Market cruise on a Riverboat is on top of her bucket list as well!

Travel feeds the soul. Nothing compares to seeing some of the most amazing things in person. The pyramids are way bigger than they look on tv, being inches away from a dolphin swimming under your kayak, and seeing damage from WWII on buildings in London are wow moments. You can see this on tv but you can't experience it. No matter what experience you are looking for I can make that happen even if all you need is a beach so you can shut down and breathe.

Meet leah carlson

Hi, I’m Leah, the newest addition to the Gökotta Travel team! My love of travel started with my first trip to the Cayman Islands where I spent a week as a nanny. I knew then that the sun, sand, and ocean were my true calling. Since then, I’ve visited beaches in Hawaii, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Clearwater Beach, and Key West, FL. Living in San Diego and having the ocean outside my front door made me realize how much of a warm-weather climate person I am despite having grown up and living most of my life in Minneapolis, MN, known as the frozen tundra. 😊

When I’m not helping you with your staycation or dream escape, I enjoy spending time in the Twin Cities with her family and friends, trying new restaurants, and checking out the hottest patios and rooftops. I’ve managed to keep two indoor plants alive for several years, I’m not scared of bugs, and I am the person who falls asleep before the plane wheels are even up on take-off.
